GO AHEAD FOR SPORTS CENTRE

THE FINAL piece of the puzzle for a new indoor community sports centre in Dunoon has been put in place, with a pledge of £100,000 from SportScotland.
The successful funding bid will now be put together with £100,000 from Argyll and Bute Council - which the Standard reported last year - and a further £100,000 from donations and the organisers themselves.
The money from SportScotland comes with the rider that work must be started by the end of July this year, and must be completed by December 31.

LOCH FYNE Oysters has already felt the impact of the UK’s decision to leave the European Union, seeing a significant drop-off in seasonal labour from the continent last year.
Managing director Cameron Brown said: “Our busiest season is from October to December, ready for Christmas, and we rely a lot on seasonal labour.
“In the past we have had regular workers who have come over from countries like Latvia and Poland to help at this time, but this year around a third of them did not arrive.

AT an emotional event in Tarbert this evening (Saturday) an electric candle was switched on by Mathew Ramsay of the Fishermen’s Mission. The Tarbert community turned out, vowing to keep the candle switched on until it ‘guides the boys home’.
