There were dramatic scenes on the shore in Innellan yesterday (Sunday November  1) when a car came  off the road, went into the Clyde, and turned upside down.

The car contained one woman and three children, all of whom were rescued with no serious inuries, although they were described as ‘shocked and shaken’.

A spokesman for Police Scotland told the Standard  that the incident happened at 3.10pm and that the woman was driving north towards Dunoon. He also confirmed that all the occupants of the car were checked out at Dunoon Hospital and then discharged.

The coastguard, police and ambulance were all called, but a local man, Terry Smith, had arrived on the scene before any of them and he rescued two of the three children in the car. The female driver had managed to free one of the children.  Mr Smith had been driving to work in his Western Ferries company van when he saw the accident and immediately rushed to help the victims.
