A PROPOSAL to radically change the timetable and school hours at Dunoon Grammar School has been backed by staff, pupils and parents.
From August the school day will begin ten minutes earlier than at present, at 8.45am.
On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday the school day will finish ten minutes later than currently, at 3.45pm.
On Thursday and Friday the school day will end at 2.40pm, nearly an hour earlier than the current arrangement.
After a consultation period staff, pupils and parents took part in a yes/no ballot and Argyll and Bute Council has confirmed the result as: staff: Yes, 86 per cent; pupils: Yes, 65 per cent; parents: Yes, 68 per cent.
A council spokeswoman said: “This is the first step in devising a curriculum, personal support framework and extra-curricular model that our young people deserve. This is a major step for the local community and we will work tirelessly to limit the impact the change in operating times will have on individual personal circumstances.
“Now that the change in weekly structure has been confirmed, we can work to devise an exciting extra-curricular programme that provides additional opportunities for our learners.
“This is an exciting period of change at Dunoon Grammar School and we firmly believe that this is a key step towards enhancing the service we offer to both our young people and the local community.”
