£400,000 FOR COWAL BEFRIENDERS

The project, which supports over 250 elderly people across Cowal, aims to reduce isolation and improve the ability of older people to cope and remain independent in their own homes.

Help, which will be prioritised on the basis of need, includes both staff and volunteer 1:1 support; (home visits, befriending and outings) as well as support, including transport,  to access, lunch and stroke clubs.

The organisation also offers help with living with early and moderate dementia.

Argyll and Bute MSP, Michael Russell welcomed the award, sayinf: : “I am delighted that Cowal Elderly Befriending Scheme based in Dunoon has been successful in applying for a £399,320 grant.
“I have contacted the project co-ordinator Pauline Livingstone to offer my hearty congratulations on successfully acquiring this funding and to thank her, her staff and volunteers for the excellent and valuable work they do in our community.
“I understand that if the council maintain their level of funding that the project should be secure for the next five years - which is great news.”
