Coastguard called to Holy Loch

There were dramatic scenes on the Holy Loch last Friday August 5. Helensburgh RNLI lifeboat crew was scrambled at round 8.40pm after Belfast Coastguard received a report that there was a person in the water in the loch.

The report had indicated that a man had fallen from his dinghy and was clinging onto the stern of the boat.

The lifeboat launched at 8.50pm, and as assistance was urgently required the incident was treated as a mayday by Belfast Coastguard.  As well as the lifeboat, a yacht in the area and an MoD Police launch also responded.

Those responding were unable to get the person out of the water, but did managed to get a rope around him and they then towed the dinghy into Sandpoint marina. Dunoon Coastguard and an ambulance were waiting there to treat the casualty.  The man had been in the water for some 30 minutes, but apart from being chilled, appeared none the worse of his immersion.

The lifeboat then returned to base and was reported ready for service again at 10.10pm.
