Volunteers and committee members are already planning the finer details on the 2016 Inveraray Games – known as the friendly games.

The event, on Tuesday July 19  will see members of the Inveraray community give of their time to set up stalls, mark out tracks, build dance platforms and all the other work associated with a traditional highland games.

The George Hotel-sponsored World Caber Championship is the highlight for many, attracting heavy athletes from throughout the world.

But there is much more.

Solo piping, Highland dancing, and sideshows vie for attention with the field athletics.

Another popular event is the ‘dads’ race’, when men of a certain age – who really should know better - compete in a sprint.

Inveraray and District Pipe Band will parade through the town at 10.45am with the main events commencing shortly afterwards.
