The OBE has been awarded to John Ormond Challis, Trustee of the Strachur based Raven Trust, for services to charity in Malawi.

Speaking to the Standard, John Challis said: “I am very honoured and pleased to receive this award.

“The Raven Trust is a partnership of many people with a variety of skills involved in practical community projects in Malawi, Central Africa. This award is recognition of their contributions as well.

“The first indication I had that my name had been put forward for an award was about three weeks ago, while involved with the people at Shonga, a village in northern Malawi, with very patchy mobile phone coverage.

“This award is an acknowledgement of the contribution that the Raven Trust, based in Strachur, has been able to make, over the years, to the people of Northern Malawi who battle to survive and live in extremely challenging circumstances.”
