BLACKSMITH Finlay Currie was at Dunoon Pier today (Friday) - with his faithful dog Kela - as finishing touches were put to new gates for the newly-refurbished structure.

Finlay explained that two ships' silhouettes are crafted in steel on the gates, PS Waverley and MV Glen Sannox – both vessels closely associated with the Victorian pier.

A new town crest was also built by GH Currie Ltd.

The Sandbank-based blacksmith said he was pleased that local firms were so involved in the pier’s restoration. He is looking forward to the official opening next Friday.
