AN ARDENTINNY man faces jail for having over 400 cannabis plants.
Neil Barnes (44) of 57 Glenfinart Caravan Park near Dunoon was employed as a gardener at the park when it was raided by armed police on February 11 last year.
Two caravans, 32 and 37, contained 71 and 346 plants respectively.
Procurator fiscal David Webster told Dunoon Sheriff Court today (Thursday) that the caravans also contained 400watt overhead lights, fans, transformers, thermometers, dehumidifiers and various plant and root stimulants.
He said that many of the older plants were dead or dying, but the younger ones had the potential to raise between £170 and £510 each.
The court heard that Barnes made a ‘full and frank’ confession when being interviewed by police, but told officers he had 'come across' the plants and saw them as an opportunity to make money.
Sheriff Ward told Barnes: “You have been involved in the production of cannabis - a very serious matter which may lead to a prison sentence.
“I am obliged to get a social work report as you have no previous convictions.”
Barnes was released on bail and will learn his fate on March 29.
