Local businesses and residents were left without internet access and disrupted phone services this week following a British Telecom ‘network outage’ across parts of Dunoon and outlying areas.
Problems begin the morning after a dramatic lightning storm on Tuesday August 2nd with many residents discovering issues with their phone lines and internet access.
A brief but violent thunder storm in the early hours of Wednesday morning saw masonry damage to Dunoon’s historic High Kirk – and caused the church clock to stop. Two pinnacles on the church steeple were struck, part of one falling on to the church roof causing damage before rolling on to a parapet and sending more masonry to the ground.
A proud grandmother is hoping her 15-year-old grand-daughter will emulate her success at this year’s Cowal Gathering. Grace Black, matriarch of Dunoon's Black’s the Baker family, took part in the Highland dancing Argyllshire Championships 15-and-under for the J C Forrest Challenge Trophy just over 50 years ago.
Now, grand-daughter Claire Black is hoping to do the same as she has entered the same competition that her grandmother won in 1961.
