DUNOON BURGH HALL – help from an apprentice

As Dunoon's Burgh Hall gears up for next Saturday’s public meeting, where the latest plans for its exciting future will be unveiled, the team behind the hall is excited to be welcoming some very special guests.
Tim Campbell, who won the first ‘Apprentice’ show, starring Sir Alan Sugar, will be coming along to the event on Saturday January 30.
The Burgh Hall project group is keen to encourage the community to get involved, in particular local young people. As part of this drive, Tim has been invited along to Saturday’s event to talk about empowering tomorrow’s entrepreneurs - some of which will hopefully hail from Dunoon after being inspired by Tim!
Students from Dunoon Grammar School will also have the opportunity to hone their creative skills, by interviewing Tim and making a film about his visit to Dunoon.
Members of the project group have recently met with students and teachers at the school, and are excited about the mutual potential and future projects that could arise from local young people coming on board at the Burgh Hall.
Dava McAslan of the McAslan Family Trust which is behind the hall told the Standard: “The volunteers on the project group have done a fabulous job so far. It’s been a lot of hard work - and the more people who become involved, the easier it becomes.
“We are really keen to attract new blood and to encourage more people to come along, especially young people.
“The public meeting is the ideal opportunity to do just that and to see exactly what the hall can become.”
The Burgh Hall has already been pressed into service as a new community venue for Cowal, having held a couple of successful open days, craft fairs and of course Santa’s Grotto over the festive season.
It has also been the site of a number of art exhibitions and preparations are in hand for the latest one - the works of John Hinde, the English photographer who was a major influence in the development of postcards and their popularity in the UK.
With lots of other events planned for the Burgh Hall in the future, including a major festival series including dance, film, visual arts, music and literature, Cowal really is on the cusp of something good for the whole community. Come along on Saturday January 30 between 10am and 4pm - this is your opportunity to get involved in the future of your Burgh Hall. See advert on page 13 for full details.
