THE companies behind Dunoon’s landmark McColl’s Hotel have gone into administration.

The West Bay Art Deco edifice is owned by McColls of Argyll Limited and the hotel’s tour operation is owned by McColls of Argyll Hotels and Tours Limited. Both companies are now being run by administrators.

As well as the Dunoon operation, with 33 staff, the companies also own the Sherwood Hotel in Torquay (22 staff) and the Brunswick Bar in Wednesbury, West Midlands (5 staff).

BDO LLP business restructuring partners, James Stephen and David Hill, were appointed joint administrators over the two companies on Monday (August 2).
The joint administrators will continue to trade both hotels and the bar with a view to selling them as going concerns to interested parties.

James Stephen, BDO business restructuring partner said in a statement: “Unfortunately the economic climate and difficult trading conditions have significantly affected the industry. However, I am hopeful of securing a sale, which would protect these long established businesses as well as preserving jobs.”
