Dr Rosemary Wright, GP at Strachur Medical Practice, died at Inverclyde Hospital on Wednesday after a short illness.

Heather Grier of Strachur and District Community Council paid the following tribute to the much-respected woman:
“On behalf of Strachur District Community Council, and the patients of the Strachur Medical Practice, I would like to pay tribute to the late Dr A R Wright.

“Dr Wright came to the Strachur practice about 8 years ago from Rothesay where she had run a busy practice. She felt it was time to take life a bit easier and so sought a part- time role.  The opportunity came and she joined Dr. Basu in Strachur, maintaining her strong links in Rothesay, where she had her home.  When Dr Basu retired, Dr. Wright continued as our GP in order to ensure the practice had continuity and also because she liked what she was doing and her involvement with the people of this area.

“She was a well respected, hard working and dedicated GP, with a wicked sense of humour.  I always left the surgery feeling better and she made me feel at ease.   We all benefited from her wide knowledge and experience and her feisty approach of getting things done for her patients.  She was not afraid to tackle issues which she believed were important for the well being of her patients and the community she served so well.

“She wrote to me before she went into hospital saying how much she loved working in Strachur and that the worst thing was her knowing she would not be coming back.  Thereafter, I know she was determined to do as much as she could for the Dunoon Hospice. It is sad that intention cannot now be fulfilled.

“Our community will miss her.”
