A FEAST OF FOOTBALL AND FUN
The World Cup might be over, but local football fans need not despair - this weekend sees a feast of footie and fun, with an international flavour, right here in Dunoon (and not a vuvuzela in sight).
Cowal International Youth Soccer Festival takes place on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 July at Dunoon stadium, and promises to be a great event for the whole family, with more than just football.
Saturday’s opening ceremony will see the participating teams parading from Castle Gardens through Argyll Street, accompanied by cheerleaders, pipers and the Umba Drummers, the sound of Brazil.
At the stadium, the various teams will battle it out for the Cowal Cup. But alongside the action on the pitches, there will be stalls, a barbecue, children’s fun rides, the Umba Drummers, a target football challenge and - for kids young and old - the Excavator Challenge! This gives you the chance to have a go on an AM Plant Hire digger.
Sunday sees lots more fun on offer as well as the football teams competing for the Dunoon Shield and Argyll Trophy, with music from Cowal Pipe Band. At the end of the festival on Sunday, the trophies will be presented to the winners.
On both days, entry is free to spectators, and local residents are urged to come along to both the parade and the stadium and give the teams a real Cowal welcome.
Festival programmes are on sale for just £1, with the chance to win £50 in the Lucky Programme Number draw.
The festival is a fun event for all the family, so no alcohol will be permitted within the stadium or the Black Park grounds.
The event has been organised by Dunoon and Cowal Business Association and its main sponsors are EventScotland, Awards for All and Argyll and Bute Council.
