ARDENTINNY HOUSING RETHINK

THERE was cautious optimism among Ardentinny  residents this week as the National Park board voted unanimously to remove its housing proposal for the Cowal village from its local plan.

The local campaign against the National Park's Housing proposal for the land south of Lochview in the Argyll village culminated in a 96-signature petition being sent to every National Park Authority Board Member prior to its Board Meeting on Wednesday.

Pauline Gordon, Acting Chair of the Proposed Housing Development Working Group, created at the request of the community almost two years ago said: “I am very pleased with the outcome. This result is the culmination of a sustained and vociferous effort to have the majority view heard and heeded.”

She continued, “responses to the Park's first and second consultation rounds produced 93 per cent and 90 per cent objections, respectively and the public meetings held in February 2009 and January 2010 also sent a clear message to the Park Authority. If there is to be new housing in Ardentinny, there should be an identified need, accessible employment and the appropriate infrastructure and amenities.”
