A group of Argyll and Bute councillors is seeking support for its petition on the future of the A83.
‘Sign for the A83’, instigated by non-political group Argyll First, now has the backing of eight MSPs and 13 councillors.
The petition seeks to: Resolve the situation at the Rest and be Thankful, resolve the ‘pinch points’ at Inveraray and between Lochgilphead and Tarbert, resolve the lack of crossing points in Ardrishaig and Tarbert and trunking of the road between Kennacraig and Campbeltown.
Councillor Donald Kelly of Argyll First said: “So far we have support from eight MSPs, 13 councillors, the Road Haulage Association, the Federation of Small Businesses and many businesses across the length and breadth of Argyll and Bute and beyond.
“Hard copies of the petition have been circulated throughout the area.
“We now have an e-petition which is gaining support slowly and this is something we would like to highlight.
“This is a one-off opportunity for Argyll and Bute to unite behind a common cause and demonstrate to the government that a firm plan of action is required to address the very serious issues associated with the A83.”
The e-petition can be found at www.gopetition.com/petitions/sign-for-the-a83.html
A paper copy can be signed in the Observer Shop.
