Narrow win keeps Kyles cup dream on track

There was a clash of the Argyll shinty titans at Tighnabruaich on Saturday when last year's Camanachd Cup finalists met in the second round of this season's competition.

Cup holders Kyles Athletic held on for a narrow win over Inveraray thanks to a thunderbolt goal from Roberto Zavaroni just after the half-hour mark.

More sport - including the tale of Strachur's Camanachd Cup foray to face Premier league champions Newtonmore - in the next edition of the Dunoon Observer and Argyllshire Standard.

SANDBANK SET TO HAVE POST OFFICE AGAIN

AFTER an absence of nearly two years the village of Sandbank, near Dunoon,  is set to have a post office again - with extended opening hours.

Peace Pilgrimage at Holy Loch

A pilgrimage for peace arrived in Cowal last week.

On day five the Iona to London Pilgrimage for Peace and Social Justice reached Dunoon, specifically Sandbank’s  Ardnadam Pier, former base of the US Navy while in Argyll.

The walk, which started on the anniversary of Columba’s arrival at Iona (May 19), will finish on July 20.

This Sunday (June 2) will see a great day of fun and footie in Dunoon at the annual DYFL gala - but there will be a tinge of sadness as the club bids farewell to coach Neil MacFarlane.

The annual fun fest will be held at Dunoon Stadium, starting at 10am.
