A scout instructor based at the Lochgoilhead Scout Centre had to be airlifted to hospital on Tuesday after sustaining injuries in a 20 foot fall while setting up an abseiling activity.
The emergency services were called to a hillside location near Lochgoilhead at around 11am on Tuesday February 23. Arrochar Mountain Rescue team attended the scene and stretchered the XX-year-old man from the hill down to a waiting rescue helicopter. The instructor is now recovering at Glasgow’s Southern General Hospital. It is believed that injuries to the hip, elbow and ankle were sustained in the fall. A spokesperson for the Scout Association said: “The Scout Association confirms that an incident took place at the Lochgoilhead Centre on Tuesday in which a member of activity staff sustained injuries whilst setting up a roped activity. “He was stretchered from the hillside by members of the Arrochar Mountain Rescue Team and airlifted to hospital as a precautionary measure where he is making a recovery. He added: “No other people were directly involved or endangered by this incident. The Scout Association is grateful for the support, speedy response and professionalism of the police and rescue services in dealing with this incident.”
