TELEVISION images of the aftermath of the Haiti earthquake touched the hearts of four Dunoon girls – so they decided to do something about it. The P6 St Mun’s Primary School pupils held a coffee morning on Sunday, and raised over £600 through the sale of cakes, biscuits and coffees.
Head teacher Gillian Neeson explained: The school held a ‘come as you please’ day for Haiti which raised over £200. The four girls, though, off their own backs, wanted to do more. They held a coffee morning after Mass on Sunday and raised a tremendous amount of money, and there is more to come.” The four – Gillian McPate, Michelle Glancy, Lucy Edgar and Alex Paton – worked together to make cakes and prepare for the coffee morning. Alex told the Standard: “It’s really hard for the children in Haiti, the ones whose parents have been killed have nobody to love them.” Gillian said: “They were poor before the earthquake, and it’s worse now.” Michelle added: “When you see it on TV you just want to look away, but you don’t.” Gillian Neeson said: “I am very proud of their enthusiasm and responsible attitude towards the plight of others.”
