ARGYLL and Bute Conservatives gathered in Inveraray at the weekend to select their candidate for next May’s Scottish election, and Jamie McGrigor MSP emerged as the victorious candidate following a closely argued run-off against former list MSP Dave Petrie.

The selection of Jamie McGrigor as MSP candidate was unanimously endorsed by those attending the meeting.
Immediately after his selection Jamie McGrigor said: “I am honoured to have been selected as candidate for the next Scottish election.

“As an experienced and long-standing MSP for Highlands and Islands, I have a very good knowledge of Argyll and Bute and I fully understand the problems and opportunities facing the people living and working here.
“I look forward to meeting as many Argyll and Bute people as possible during what promises to be a vigorous and exciting campaign in these challenging times.”

Mr McGrigor will also stand for the regional list vote.

The Liberal Democrats have yet to decide their candidate, although the two contenders are Jean Davis from the Western Isles and Cllr Alison Hay from Minard. The count will take place on July 22.

The SNP will choose between Mike MacKenzie from Balvicar, Easdale and Education Secretary Michael Russell from Colintraive. A result is expected on August 9.

Labour did not respond to our query, although we understand that the candidacy is between Hugh Raven of Morven and David Graham of Dunoon.
