DETAILS of how Argyll Ferries plans to tackle problems with Dunoon's passenger-only service will be published next week, civil servants have confirmed.
In the print edition of the Standard dated Friday January 13, we told how both Argyll and Bute Council leader Dick Walsh and Michael Russell had expected to receive the improvement plan within two weeks after a key meeting on the beleaguered town centre service.
However, Argyll Ferries claimed it had never been asked to produce such a plan - and said that it had already provided the Scottish Government with a strategy document.
On Friday January 13, a Transport Scotland spokesman contacted the Standard to advise that despite the confusion, an improvement plan will be published shortly.
"Following concerns about the reliability of the Gourock-Dunoon ferry service which Argyll Ferries deliver, Cabinet Secretary for Infrastructure and Capital Investment Alex Neil requested last month that the operator develop an Improvement Plan laying out how they propose to address immediate operational issues and how that is communicated to their customers," he said.
"This plan was requested to ensure every effort was being made by Argyll Ferries to deliver the standard of service the people of Argyll expect and as is required in their contract with the Scottish Government.
"The Improvement Plan will be published next week."
No more details are available about the exact date of publication, but the Standard has asked for more information and will publish more analysis when it is available.
