While communities, volunteers and public and emergency services have been pulling together during recent storms, mobile phone providers have been letting Argyll down claims the local MSP.
Michael Russell praised and thanked everyone who helped in their efforts during and after some of the worst storms to hit the area in years.
Mr Russell, who lives in rural Cowal, said: “I commend everyone who helped keep the area moving during and after this exceptional weather.
“There was a real community effort from volunteers, emergency services and workers who pulled out all the stops to make sure all were safe and well. When there was a problem it was dealt with quickly and efficiently. We witnessed some horrific scenes throughout the area.”
“However, part of the problem in communicating issues was lack of mobile phone reception throughout the area, he claimed.
“The people who have coped least well are the mobile phone providers who have not fully-fixed problems to the network during the storms earlier in December. We pay the same tariff as everyone else in the country and yet do not have the same provision. We have no 3G for example. In extreme situations like these storms we need a reliable mobile service – something we simply do not have.
“I am demanding action from the mobile phone providers to ensure we on the west coast have an equitable service with the rest of the country.”
Mr Russell ask that people contact him to tell of their mobile phone provision, or lack thereof, in the past weeks.
He continued: “I will then present a strong case to providers for a much improved service.”
