A walker came across the decomposed body of a woman on the shores of Loch Striven on Friday (March 25).
Locals were alerted to the horror find near Colintraive, 22 miles from Dunoon, on Friday as Strathclyde Police boats and vehicles were seen to be active in the area. The body is thought to have been discovered at remote Troustan, south of Colintraive.
A Strathclyde Police spokeswoman told the Standard: “At 6.30pm on Friday (March 25) police were called to a report of a body being found on the shore near Colintraive. A woman’s body was discovered.
“Enquiries are ongoing. A post-mortem is being carried out and details will be released once next-of-kin have been informed.”
Police believe it may be the body of a missing hillwalker.
In March 2007, 65-year-old Jennifer Thomson of Methven, Perthshire set off from the Colintraive hotel to climb nearby Beinn Bhreac. The experienced climber did not return after weather closed in and - despite several extensive searches involving mountain rescue volunteers, civilians and police divers - the retired teacher was never found.
