We are facing massive, painful cuts in all aspects of public life including education, health and police. What is your reaction to this? What would you cut?

How about getting rid of some councillors for a start? That would save a fair few £`S!

By all accounts, the local council should probably take a big hit. I don't know how many of the working-age population in Dunoon are employed by the state but, if other areas are anything to go by,it's likely to be quite high. The council appears to hugely bloated, with large near-empty prime properties containing small council depts which could surely be consolidated. Councillors, senior and middle managers etc will hopefully be trimmed back. As tax-payers we may all have to suffer from the cuts to some extent but most of us are already reigning-in and controlling our spending these days - the council who depend on our money should be doing the same.

It would be really useful to the public I`m sure if we all knew exactly what services our council provide. Also what services do they have to provide, and what other services are provided that are possibly not required and do they break even? Maybe this could be a future story for the paper?

Thanks for your comments.
The council is giving a 'briefing' to journalists in a couple of weeks about its budget plans.
All may be clearer after that...
