Under-fire Argyll and Bute Council leader James Robb came under growing pressure this evening as Councillor Fred Hall, representing Oban South and the Isles, resigned from the SNP council group – claiming that “ideological differences” mean that it would be dishonest to remain as an administration member.
His resignation comes just weeks after another respected SNP councillor, Dunoon member Michael Breslin, quit the administration.

One of Scotland's most respected politicians has been unveiled as the honorary chieftain of this year's Cowal Highland Gathering.
Rt Hon Lord Robertson of Port Ellen, who was born on the Isle of Islay but spent most of his childhood in Dunoon, will accept the salute from the spectacular massed bands as well as present the trophies in the prestigious Highland dancing and pipe band competitions.
